How to use this template well

Use nouns for deliverables

A 'reviewed floor plan' or 'configured workflow' is easier to verify than vague activity such as 'assist with planning.'

Pair every dependency with an owner

If access, selection, content, or approval is required, identify who provides it and the date needed to protect the schedule.

Define acceptance before delivery

Agree on observable criteria and review timing early rather than inventing the finish line after the work is submitted.

A strong scope of work makes 'done' testable, assigns dependencies, and creates a controlled path for requests that fall outside the baseline.

Frequently asked questions

What is a scope of work?

A scope of work defines the project objective, deliverables, boundaries, responsibilities, milestones, assumptions, acceptance criteria, and change process.

How is a scope of work different from a proposal?

A proposal sells an approach and commercial offer. A scope of work gives the delivery-level definition that may sit inside or attach to the proposal or contract.

How do you prevent scope creep?

Define explicit inclusions and exclusions, assign dependencies, use measurable acceptance criteria, and route new requests through documented impact review and approval.
